Sunday, April 17, 2016: Discussion & Potluck: RESCHEDULED DUE TO SNOW!

Guest Speaker, Rev. Barry Bloom

Guest Speaker Rev. Barry Bloom

RESCHEDULED TO OUR AUGUST MEETING DUE TO SNOW!!

Love. The Prime Resistance to Hate.

How do we resist violence and the hateful actions of others? When we react in kind, we have been successfully recruited to be “a part of the problem.”

Violence and hate beget violence and hate. The only real choice we have, as religious people, was handed down over two thousand years ago:

Love our neighbors as ourselves. Turn the other cheek.

As Unitarian Universalists, how do we practice such difficult actions and remain true to our principles?

Having grown up in Missouri, Rev. Barry Bloom spent ten years on Cape Cod, Massachusetts, where he became a Unitarian Universalist before moving to Colorado in 1987.

Before becoming a UU minister, Bloom had a career as a counselor/psychotherapist. Bloom attended schools in Missouri, including a master’s from Missouri University-Columbia. In preparation for the ministry, he attended Iliff School of Theology in Denver (1990-92) and graduated with a doctorate in ministry from the University of Creation Spirituality in 2000. He served as the minister at Columbine UU in Littleton (2001-08) and is presently a community minister attached to Jefferson Unitarian in Golden.

Bloom is married to consultant/author Amanda Trosten-Bloom and their daughter, Hannah Joy Bloom, graduates in May from CU Boulder with a degree in Piano Performance. They live outside of Golden.

We hope you’ll join us! As always, we will finish up with a potluck and social hour, so please bring food and/or drink to share. Blue jeans and casual attire are welcome.

Our current meeting place is 3737 New Hope Way, Castle Rock, CO, 80109, in the Castle Rock Room of New Hope Presbyterian Church*.

Meetings begin promptly at 4 o’clock p.m.
